ICCLE - The International Center on Child Labor and Education

International Center on Child Labor and Education is a pubic policy institution based in Washington, DC, which tries to bring coherence in policies guiding the work around child labor, education and poverty in close cooperation waith civil society, southern governments, international organizations, the Bretton Wood Institutions, and northern donor governments. ICCLE plays a unique interventionist role with all of these actors to ensure that there is coherence in policies and actions around the issues of child labor elimination, education for all, and poverty alleviation.

In addition, ICCLE helps its civil society partners, particularly in countries which have the highest number of out-of-school children and the most endemic child labor problems, by facilitating financial support to them for organizing rescue operations of children trafficked and forced into labor, for building/running rehabilitation centers, and for mainstreaming children into fulltime schools.

Our partnership with non-governmental organizations is for the hardest to reach children, their parents and communities. Our role in this partnership goes beyond mere funding; we work with our partners to bring about a sustainable change in the lives of the hardest to reach children through global advocacy work. Many children's rights, for example the right to education, play, protection, participation and even life, cannot be ensured unless child labor is built-into the policies and plans to ensure these rights.

Together with our partners, we work towards ensuring that basic rights are available to all categories of children, especially the hardest to reach children: child victims of bonded/forced labor, children working in hazardous conditions, children from minority groups or indigenous communities, children in conflict areas, children with disabilities or special needs, working girls, child domestic workers, etc.

ICCLE's development work is sustained by the partnerships we have with grassroots organizations around the world. We serve as the link between grassroots level initiatives that are doing terrific work with children, but are short on resources … and people and organizations in America that have the resources to help. These partnerships are key to making a sustainable change in the lives of socially excluded children. ICCLE supports organizations and projects making a difference in the lives of the hardest to reach children in various cities around the globe. Our volunteers play a key role in visiting and reporting on the progress of the supported projects.

ICCLE sends 85% of donations to the partner organization of your choice to directly support its core programming or the program of your choice. 15% is set aside for fundraising expenses (galas, publicity, travel and related office expense).
